Preparing a Quilt for Longarm Quilting
Preparing a Quilt for Longarm Quilting Quilt Top : 1. Press the back of your quilt top well. Please make sure that all seams are pressed flat on the back and facing in the desired direction. 2. Cut off trailing threads from the back of the quilt. 3. Indicate the ‘top' (as opposed to ‘bottom) with a piece of paper marked “TOP” and attach with a safety pin. (Unless, of course, it is really unmistakable.) 4. Fold top carefully . Backing: 1. Choose 100% cotton. Poly/cotton and 100% polyester stretch differently and cause tucks and puckering during the quilting process. (I have large backings available also, please ask to see the samples.) 2. Remove ALL selvages both from seams and along the edges. 3. Please cut the backing and batting (if you supply it) at least 4” larger than your top on ALL sides (packaged batting need not be cut) Cut them as square (90 degree corners) as possible. See more information at http://www.christianlanequilters.citymax.com/squaring.html on squaring the backing. 4. Press well...Backing seams should be pressed open. 5. Fold carefully and place with quilt top. Borders.... Ask for the handout on preparing borders! |
