Mailing Your Quilts for Quilting

First of all, thank you for choosing me to quilt your work of art!

I want the best for your quilt and because I have found that packaging varies, I felt it would be helpful to provide these suggestions. Your quilt will be treated with the utmost care when it arrives and when it is mailed back to you, so why not make sure it arrives to the destination safely?

Before you mail your quilt please, please, please email me so that I am aware your quilt is on its way. Please email me with the date and shipping method by which you are sending your quilt.

After following the guidelines in “Preparing Your Quilt for Quilting” please fold your quilt carefully and, along with your carefully prepared and folded backing, place it in a sealed strong plastic bag. Please make sure you press as much air out of the bag before sealing, as possible. The two gallon freezer zipper bags are a great option, because they are tough and can withstand some tearing if your package should be damaged in transit.

*Please do not ever send your precious quilt in a paper or padded envelope. This type of packaging does not offer enough protection to your quilt.

After sealing your quilt safely in a plastic bag, please place the quilt or quilts in a box in very good condition. The US Postal Service offers flat rate mailing for a fraction of what it sometimes costs to mail a package of the same size across the country. (One of my customers saves as much as two dollars sending two quilts and backings this way!) The flat rate boxes are free and available at your local post office. If you do not see them, ask them and they will provide them for you.

If you choose another method of shipping your quilt to me, please make sure the packaging is new and in good shape and tape all the corners to protect the contents.

Your trust, your business and your quilt mean a great deal to me, I want your quilt to be safe in transit. Please consider sending your quilt to me insured and with delivery confirmation.
I know your quilts can not be replaced, that is why I offer these suggestions.
